Love to cook

I absolutely love to cook. About the only real downer to the place I live, right now, is the kitchen. It’s tiny. I actually have a fold out table that’s used to create work space when I’m cooking. It got a real workout last night. I decided to actually pony up and make a soufflé. I’ve always whimped out in the past and made a quiche instead. But, I really, really wanted a soufflé. Aside from just having a real taste for it – I wanted to see if I could do it. Particularly since I didn’t have a few items that make a soufflé work well – like, say – a soufflé dish. Yay for Pyrex. Yup – I pulled out one of my medium size pyrex mixing bowls and it turned into my soufflé dish. Hey – it worked rather well, too.

I wound up with a very hearty soufflé for dinner last night. One minor error that was easily enough remedied (just a little extra cooking time) and I had a great soufflé – and it didn’t fall! I’m so happy with myself over that.

Of course, there was no way I was leaving it trashed like that so a lot of cleaning ensued after the cooking. About 10pm I finally plopped down on the couch to watch The Ruins and knit. So, I didn’t get nearly as much knitting done as I’d hoped I would. However, I did get some work done on it – of course, if I would not try to IM while I knit it would probably help. Having to stop every quarter row or so to respond really slows you down.

ACK…I just heard one of the guys I work with use the term “irregardless”…it makes me cringe to hear someone use that.

Anyway – cracking down and getting some work done. For a “quiet summer”, we sure have been slammed with stuff to do.
