Well, how do you like them apples?

Monday, March 12th, 2007

So, update time.

I have a new job with QLogic as a DVT Engineer. It’s going to be challenging and I just hope I can do the job to meet my expectation – and theirs. They are taking a chance on me and I seriously appreciate it.

As for news in my current (soon to be old) job…they decide to give all the Converged group their walking papers….and then expect us to train their lackies that they send down from Denver in a week’s time frame. *eyeroll* Yeah…This network is complicated, people. What part of that aren’t they understanding? It’s not just “MPLS”. It’s not just “VPLS”. It’s not just “frame”. It’s not just “IP”. It’s not just “ATM”. It’s not just “POS”. It’s all of it and more…in one big, Gordian nightmare. The device is flaky on a good day, the “solutions” we have in place are cludgy and horrific to follow…and you know what? I don’t give a flying fig about if they are trained or not. It was their infinite wisdom that had them lay off the whole team – they can suck it up and learn it the hard way, in my opinion. I’m certainly not going to go out of my way to impart the knowledge in my head when they obviously felt it wasn’t necessary to the wellbeing of the company to keep it.

And, if they don’t like it – well, I really don’t have to be here the next week.

Sour grapes, much? Hell yeah.

But, I’m bouncing off the walls excited about QLogic….nervous as all get out – but excited too. It’s just such a grand opportunity and I don’t wanna mess it up.

Happy Time

An tUasal suffered through a modern day B movie escapade with me last night.

I loved it. But…I love horrid movies. We’ve discussed this in the past. He knows it. He’d heard the reviews of Ghost Rider and he’s not exactly the most “bad movie” kinda person – unless it’s kung fu bad movies. That’s another story all together.
Anyway, even with all the crap going on with the integrations at work and the layoffs and all that, we found time to hit the movies. That’s something that hasn’t happened in a long while, and is greatly appreciated.

Sun on Snow – or Life at Its Worst

Tuesday, March 6th, 2007

When I start gearing up to really hate the world, there are people who jump out to surprise me.

An tUasal showing up with some exceptionally lovely flowers – completely unexpectedly. It made me all gooshy inside. See? Aren’t they lovely?

And then I get up and leave the house tonight to find a note taped to my door from my landlord. A note that made me sniffle and realize that all those times I’ve talked about how great my landlord is just didn’t do him justice. It’s times like that – just when I’m gearing up to curse and blast all of humanity, only to have my legs cut out from under me by such amazingly sweet and uncommon gestures – that I realize…

Life is like a fabulous mountain range. Peaks and valleys. Lights and shadows. Highs and lows. Beautiful in areas. Ugly in others. And while it may take your breath away from time to time with it’s beauty and majesty…never once doubt that it is always deadly. Yet, the experience if it all thrown out before you in a grand panorama, with the sun glinting off the snow on the peaks and the deer running through the brush in the valleys…that experience is what makes it all worth while. And people like An tUasal and my landlord…they are those things that take your breath away…those moments of splendor in a world of gloom that make you appreciate the world around you. Even when it’s doing its best to be its grungiest worst.

Thank you two for being the wonderful people you are.
