Wedding Ring Shawl

Saturday, May 20th, 2006

Well, I had gotten through the first pattern repeat and decided I didn’t like working this on size 1s (US). So…**deep breath**…it visited the frog pond. I’ve now redone the provisional section, and am up to four rows of the garter stitch on my size 0s (US). A bit frustrating, but I’d much rather do it now than get mostly finished and decide it just isn’t right. No photos – there is no way I’m taking pictures of this with my camera phone. I am also working it on 16″ circs because they were the only size 0s (US) that I had in the house.

I’m working on a special project while waiting for the LSSK KAL to start, as well as tackling the Over-the-Knee socks. I’m really looking forward to how those turn out, but I’m being really sporadic about it. I’ve gotten another row or two done on my Ark vest, but I just can’t seem to bring myself to be passionate about it.

I’ve found that I love knitting, and there are some patterns out there that I really like; but, when it’s patterns that someone else has written, I tend to really, really take my time doing them. Whereas, when it’s something I’m designing or making up on the fly, I tend to be a lot more dedicated to the finish line. What’s up with that?

Anyone else experience this same phenomenon?

This isn’t to say that I don’t use or complete patterns made by others, as several of my finished objects show. It’s just that they don’t seem to take centre stage while the ones I’m making do. Like I have to finish the project I have in mind before the creative juices stop flowing or something.

Anyway – looks like the lawn guy is going to bail again this weekend, and with all the rain we’ve had, it seems I have to go and find someone who’s lawn mower I can borrow to get the grass under control. Too bad no one in my cove has a kid and a lawnmower, I’d pay the kid what I generally pay my lawn guy….oh well, cest la vie.

In addition, I have to write a paper this weekend. It’s not like I didn’t know about this for two weeks. I’m just really, really bad about procrastination. It’s due by midnight Sunday, along with a discussion board response. **grimace** I’ll get them done, it just really cramps my knitting/crocheting time…especially because there’s a derby bout this Sunday, too. **chuckles**

Moss Stitch Socks

Thursday, May 18th, 2006

Well, I’ve finished them as much as I’m going to. I really like how the stitch looks with this yarn. Sorry the only camera I have, at this time, is not suited for real stitch defining photos.

I had, originally, planned on making them knee highs; but, I changed my mind on that. I’m already working on a set of over-the-knee socks and I don’t wear really tall socks often, anyway. I tend to prefer ankle socks.

The only thing I’d consider if I made these again is to go down to a size 1 needle instead of a size 2. If I hadn’t snapped all my size ones and been more interested in casting on than going and buying more needles in the monsoon blowing at the time I started these, these would have been done on size ones. **chuckles**

yarn   Cotton-Lycra sock yarn
Colour name: sherbert
Size: 2.6oz/460 yards

needles   Size 2 US.
Clover Bamboo set of 5 DPNs

pattern   My own pattern.

Short row toe and heal, moss stitch top/leg with ss sole and 2×1 1/4″ ribbing at the cuff.

Cast on 60 stitches for the toe, work down to 8 stitches, work back up to 60. Stitches divided evenly between all four needles. Moss stitch across top of foot (needles 2 and 3) and ss across sole (needles 1 and 4). Work until 3 inches from heel. Work short row heel – I took mine down to 8 stitches, but I have tiny heels, you might prefer more (don’t forget the yarn stretches quite a bit). When heel is turned, decrease 4 stitches (56 stitches on needles). Work in moss stitch up to 1/4″ from desired height. At that point, change to 2×1 ribbing. Cast off after 1/4″ has been knit in 2×1 ribbing.

If you want to take these up over the calf, remember you have to increase or decrease in sets of four for a complete pattern increase.

1. How old do you wish you were?
The age I am…now, if I just didn’t look it ;-)

At work watching it on webfeed and trying to wrap my mind around the fact that it wasn’t a hoax…especially considering I had loved ones in NYC and the Pentagon.

3. What do you do when vending machines steal your money?
Nothing much – maybe pop the machine if I’m in a mood…

A bowl of oatmeal and a donut. Shhhhh!! Don’t remind me that I’ve been griping about gaining weight…I’m already complaining to myself about my lack of self control.

5. If you had to get a tattoo, where would it be?
Um…well…I’m already contemplating another one, which would be actually an extension/partial coverup of one I already have. It’s on my left ankle.

Irish Gaelige and Spanish…yes, yes….I live in Texas and can’t speak a lick of Spanish – shame on me.

Depends.

13. What is your dream job?
